A workshop in two sessions created by Thalia Dimitropoulou in collaboration with courage fuyons
What happens when we don’t speak? When we don’t react and instead let the world around us and within us speak to us? We live in a world that constantly urges us to produce, to act, to react to everything that happens. A world where silence is rarely an option in our social interactions. But are there things we don’t notice in this constant activity? Wouldn’t we like to sit back sometimes and observe what is happening?
In this experimental workshop we performed everyday activities with the common denominator of the absence of speech. We created the conditions for anyone who wanted to try individual and collective experiences without the presence of words. On the first day we walked, ate and shared with each other and with nature in the streets of Athens and at Akadimia Platanos park. On the second day, courage fuyons took us on a journey of sonic exploration, in a quiet cocoon with rugs, pillows and delicate ballads, organic noises and whispers – a time dedicated to letting go and diving into sound.
Thalia Dimitropoulou currently teaches Spanish and is a beginning massage therapist. She has studied body psychotherapy and theater and has led movement workshops and participated in theater plays, mostly in the context of theater collectives. Through her work she tries to create loving inclusive environments, where people can meet themselves and others.
From Paris and based in Athens, courage fuyons (which literally means “courage, let’s escape”) is a dj and visual artist haunted by the question: what if exploring sound could help us run away? In his universe – from lullabies to percussive tracks – everything is possible, as long as there is love and music. https://www.soundcloud.com/couragefuyons
