We explored the animal within the body, the wildness of the voice, and the voice that resides in the animal of the body. This workshop was a journey into the power of vocal practice as a tool for growth, self-discovery, and liberation. It blended professional vocal techniques with performative, sonic elements of the voice as experienced both individually and collectively.
We began by warming up our bodies, finding our voices, practicing vocal techniques, and engaging in collective vocal experiments.
Next, we broke into groups to record our voices and experiment with percussion objects. Together, we created experimental melodies and improvised rhythms using these objects, culminating in a collective improvisation.
Through these exercises, we not only enhanced our vocal capacities but also discovered how the vibrational qualities of our voices extend beyond singing, functioning as an organic, transformative force. We focused on the sonic dimensions of the voice, using simple recording techniques to collaboratively edit and produce a collective track during the session. This process helped us explore the creative interplay of sound, the body in space, and the voice.
